Volcano School is aimed at raising children’s awareness of volcanic hazards.
Our goal is to create an educational network where children can study the world’s volcanoes. The attention that these generations can give to the volcanic environment could change the way we understand volcanoes and the situation to which the inhabitants of their areas are exposed, and it is this lack of knowledge that is one of the problems we have today when it comes to dealing with an episode of volcanic activity.
The first Volcano School meeting was held in Catalonia, with the participation of 200 children from schools in Barcelona and Olot.
The activity started at the Trinitat Nova School Institute in Barcelona, where the children were picked up. This school has the particularity of teaching through audiovisual productions, so the children prepared questions for the interviews that they recorded.
After a bus journey of almost two hours, the children arrived in Olot. They were divided into three groups, each group visiting a different school and a different volcanic area of Olot.
The Olot schools that participated in the exchange were: Escola Pia, Escola Volcá Bisarroques and Escola Joan Maragall to whom we are very grateful for having been part of this initiative.
The children from these schools have been studying the volcanic areas of Olot since the beginning of the year, as well as acquiring knowledge about volcanoes in the world, their environment and their inhabitants. Strong emphasis was placed on the importance of preventing volcanic risks through education and science.
Finally, the children had a meal of brotherhood and many moments to share and learn about their different realities.
As a foundation we plan to replicate the Volcano School all over the world.
We need the involvement of everyone, schools, companies and individuals.
If your school is interested or your company would like to collaborate please contact us.
Children are the future, therefore they are the main carriers of an awareness of volcanic hazards, an informed society is a responsible society that can act in time and prevent a tragedy.
Collaborate with us, by becoming a member of the Foundation or by making a one-off donation, together we will have the resources to prevent a tragedy.
