1st edition of the Festival of Earth Sciences and Environment in Togo

The Earth and Environmental Science Days (EESD) are celebrated every year in most countries of the world in order to increase awareness of Earth and environmental sciences among their population and to share knowledge and highlight the research work of students, researchers, professors, and professionals. It is also a place to raise awareness among students and undergraduates of the Earth and environmental sciences in order to better orient them and open up opportunities in this field. They also serve to bring together students, researchers, teachers, and professionals to create opportunities for collaboration in this field.

Objectives:

To better discover natural resources, and to raise awareness on their reasonable management with the environment
Raise awareness on natural risks, their impact on the environment, and their management
To raise awareness on environmental protection and climate change
Promote the place of women in the field of Earth sciences
Create a link between students, professors, researchers, and professionals in the field of Earth Sciences
To organize the 2nd edition of the Togolese Geosciences Olympiads for pupils and students of Togo
To exchange with the pupils of the high schools (scientific series) and with the students on the possibilities of orientation in the professions of the Earth sciences and the environment
Offer a rock kit to each target school and promote practical teaching in schools

Unfortunately, these days are never celebrated in Togo and the geological sciences have remained almost unknown and even marginalized by the Togolese population. Opportunities in this field are almost non-existent for pupils and students in Togo.
To make up for this lack of promotion of Earth and environmental sciences in Togo, and to open the way to opportunities for Togo’s pupils and students, the NGO SG2D has called upon AFIPS and the Volcano Active Foundation to organize the very first edition of the Geological Days in Togo.
