LA NASA PRUEBA EN ISLANDIA CURIOSITY ROBOTS

Antes de la próxima misión a Marte en 2020, es en los campos de lava islandeses donde la NASA está preparando la continuación del trabajo iniciado por el Curiosity robot que, desde 2012, explora el planeta rojo en busca de señales de vida.
Enclavado al pie de Langjökull, el segundo glaciar más grande de Islandia, al oeste de la isla, el campo de lava de Lambahraun fue durante tres semanas en julio el patio de recreo de una docena de científicos e ingenieros enviados por la agencia espacial estadounidense. Equipado con sensores 3D, un ordenador, una cámara con dos objetivos e instrumentos científicos, el rover, controlado a distancia o con mando a distancia, mueve sus 570 kg a unos 20 cm/s.
El robot recoge y clasifica los datos de su entorno mediante imágenes que envía a los ingenieros situados en un remolque a varios cientos de metros de la máquina.
Los lugares se eligen para estudiar cómo la arena y las rocas cambian tanto en su composición química como en sus propiedades físicas al pasar del glaciar al río cercano.
