ENCUESTA DE BIOMONITORIZACIÓN EN LA PROVINCIA VOLCÁNICA DE VIRUNGA

Las emisiones volcánicas representan una de las fuentes naturales más importantes de elementos principales y traza (gases y partículas) a la atmósfera (por ejemplo, S, F, As, Cd, Cu, Hg, Pb, Sb, Tl y Zn), influyendo secuencialmente en las demás esferas geoquímicas (hidrosfera, litosfera y biosfera) a través de la deposición atmosférica. Los volcanes Nyiragongo y Nyamulagira, en la provincia volcánica de Virunga (República Democrática del Congo), se encuentran entre los diez principales emisores de volátiles a la atmósfera. Las técnicas de biomonitorización se han utilizado ampliamente en los estudios medioambientales para controlar los contaminantes antropogénicos. Recientemente, dichas técnicas se han aplicado también para conocer el impacto de los contaminantes liberados de forma natural por la actividad volcánica (Calabrese et al., 2015; Arndt et al., 2017). En el presente estudio se ha realizado un estudio de biomonitorización en diferentes lugares alrededor de los volcanes activos Nyiragongo y Nyamulagira (R.D. Congo). Aquí, informamos de los primeros resultados preliminares de un nuevo y original estudio sobre las deposiciones atmosféricas recogidas en 2011 y 2014, con el objetivo de investigar el impacto de la deposición volcanogénica en los alrededores de estos dos volcanes activos
