The Yellowstone Supervolcano, located in the Yellowstone National Park in the USA, is one of the largest in the world.
At times its activity has produced a lava flow, but it has the potential to cause real global devastation.
Every 600,000 years or so, the Yellowstone caldera erupts, forming large calderas and craters measuring tens of kilometers in diameter. It is estimated that the next eruption could wipe out all of humanity.
NASA is exploring ways to avert a global catastrophe and plans to create an innovative geothermal power plant.
This eruption is one of the greatest natural threats to humanity according to NASA, and the likely next eruption of the Yellowstone is causing the greatest fear among geologists and specialists.
Some 85 kilometers long and 45 kilometers wide, the caldera houses a gigantic magma chamber that could precipitate the end of humanity, if it were to erupt.
According to UN estimates, this would mark the onset of a terrible volcanic winter and cause a global famine, leaving us with enough food reserves to survive for two and a half months.
In order to prevent such a disaster scenario from occurring, NASA is seriously studying the possibility of cooling the Yellowstone Overseer using large quantities of water.
It is time to become aware of the volcanic risks, get informed and spread the word.
We leave you this video of the latest monitoring of the volcano conducted by the observatory and published in USGS. 77 earthquakes have been detected in the area this 2019.
