Scientists who act beyond science.
Alex has always been interested in the natural world, adventure and travel. She became interested in Volcanology while studying Geophysics at the University of Leeds and Victoria University of Wellington. Through living and studying in New Zealand Alex learned first hand about the direct and indirect impacts of tectonic and volcanic events on communities and the environment.
This led her to pursue a masters project on satellite remote sensing of Kelud volcano in Indonesia, which has been used in collaboration with other studies to further research on explosive volcanic eruptions.
In 2019 Alex worked for 4 ½ months at Colima Centre for Exchange and Research in Volcanism as a volunteer volcanologist monitoring activity at Volcan de Colima and Isla Socorro and assisting with research into past eruptions at Volcan de Colima and Ceboruco. She became interested in Volcano Active Foundation through her outreach work from Mexico, managing CIIV’s social media pages and writing a blog about her work and experiences.
