He has a PhD in fluid geochemistry at the University of Naples, a master’s degree in environmental geochemistry from the University of Liège, a master’s degree in chemistry from the Institut Supérieur Pédagogique of Bukavu and postgraduate studies in Evaluation of volcanic hazards and monitoring of active volcanoes in the University of Hawaii.
His experience includes the study of volcanic gases, active volcano monitoring, geochemistry of stable isotopes, water geochemistry and geological hazards.
Its main research activities are the study and monitoring of the Virunga volcanoes, the study and monitoring of CO2 and the Kivu Lake rich in CH4, the evaluation of natural hazards in the city of Goma, the evaluation of the environmental impacts of Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira, and its permanent dangers to human health. Among others.
Charles is the author and co-author of several scientific publications in these fields, is a member of the GEO-GSNL Geohazard Supersites network and initiative of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Interior of the Earth (IAVCEI), of the Chemistry Commission of the Volcanic Gases (CCVG), of the European Geosciences Union. (EGU), and the Global Network of Isotopes in Precipitation (the focal point for Central Africa).
He is currently the manager of the Foundation’s Virunga Project.
