Dans ces paysages, la pluie tombe sur la v&eacute;g&eacute;tation, s&rsquo;infiltre dans le sol et s&rsquo;&eacute;coule librement sur le terrain. Cette eau &eacute;rode facilement les cendres volcaniques et les d&eacute;bris rocheux des versants, creusant rapidement de larges canaux et transportant d&rsquo;&eacute;normes quantit&eacute;s de s&eacute;diments vers des zones situ&eacute;es &agrave; des dizaines de kilom&egrave;tres en aval. Cet exc&egrave;s de s&eacute;diments peut remplir des canaux plus &eacute;loign&eacute;s du volcan, rehausser le lit des rivi&egrave;res, retenir les lacs et provoquer des inondations plus fr&eacute;quentes. L&rsquo;eau qui s&rsquo;&eacute;coule vigoureusement dans ces conditions a la force de traverser les r&eacute;servoirs pour lib&eacute;rer les crues g&eacute;n&eacute;ratrices de <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;LAHAR&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Le lahar est un mot indon&eacute;sien d&eacute;signant un m&eacute;lange de d&eacute;bris rocheux et d&amp;#039;eau qui s&amp;#039;&eacute;coule rapidement et qui prend naissance sur les pentes d&amp;#039;un volcan.
