Contrairement &agrave; la lumi&egrave;re visible ou infrarouge, les ondes radar traversent la plupart des nuages m&eacute;t&eacute;orologiques et sont tout aussi efficaces dans l&rsquo;obscurit&eacute;. Tout mouvement de la surface du sol se rapprochant ou s&rsquo;&eacute;loignant du satellite peut &ecirc;tre mesur&eacute; et repr&eacute;sent&eacute; comme une &laquo;&nbsp;image&nbsp;&raquo; &ndash; non pas de la surface elle-m&ecirc;me, mais de la quantit&eacute; de mouvement (<a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;D&Eacute;FORMATION&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Changements &agrave; la surface d&amp;#039;un volcan qui se produisent en raison du mouvement du magma sous la surface. Les images sont fournies par des agences spatiales en Italie, en Allemagne, au Canada, au Japon, en Cor&eacute;e, en Europe et aux &Eacute;tats-Unis.<\/p>\n<p>Pour cr&eacute;er cette <a title=\"MONITORING\" href=\"http:\/\/volcanx.cluster031.hosting.ovh.net\/fr\/?page_id=11396\">d&eacute;formation<\/a> &laquo;&nbsp;image&nbsp;&raquo; radar, une impulsion d&rsquo;&eacute;nergie radar est &eacute;mise par un satellite, diffus&eacute;e par la surface de la Terre et enregistr&eacute;e par le satellite avec deux types d&rsquo;informations : l&rsquo;amplitude et la phase. L&rsquo;amplitude est la force du signal de retour, influenc&eacute;e par les propri&eacute;t&eacute;s physiques de la surface. La distance aller-retour entre le satellite et le sol est mesur&eacute;e en unit&eacute;s de longueur d&rsquo;onde radar, et les changements de cette distance entre le moment o&ugrave; deux images radar ont &eacute;t&eacute; recueillies apparaissent comme une diff&eacute;rence de phase. La combinaison de ces deux images est appel&eacute;e &laquo;&nbsp;interf&eacute;rence&nbsp;&raquo; car la combinaison de deux ondes a pour effet de les renforcer ou de les annuler.<\/p>\n<p>InSAR &eacute;largit consid&eacute;rablement la capacit&eacute; des scientifiques &agrave; surveiller les volcans car, contrairement aux autres techniques qui reposent sur des mesures en quelques points, <strong>InSAR produit une carte de la <a class=\"glossaryLink\" aria-describedby=\"tt\" data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;D&Eacute;FORMATION&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Changements &agrave; la surface d&amp;#039;un volcan qui se produisent en raison du mouvement du magma sous la surface.
