Cuando este gas incoloro e inodoro es emitido por los volcanes, suele diluirse muy r&aacute;pidamente hasta alcanzar bajas concentraciones y no supone una amenaza para la vida. Sin embargo, como el di&oacute;xido de carbono fr&iacute;o es m&aacute;s pesado que el aire, puede fluir hacia zonas bajas donde puede alcanzar concentraciones mucho m&aacute;s altas en determinadas condiciones atmosf&eacute;ricas muy estables. Esto puede suponer graves riesgos para las personas y los animales. Respirar aire que contenga m&aacute;s de un 3% de CO2 puede provocar r&aacute;pidamente dolores de cabeza, mareos, aumento del ritmo card&iacute;aco y dificultades respiratorias.
