Los l&aacute;seres son capaces de penetrar el dosel del bosque hasta el suelo, por lo que, a diferencia de los m&eacute;todos de fotogrametr&iacute;a, los mapas realizados con lidar revelan caracter&iacute;sticas de la superficie del terreno que est&aacute;n enmascaradas por las fotograf&iacute;as digitales tomadas en zonas de vegetaci&oacute;n densa o de bosques.<\/p>\n<p>Los MDE de lidar se han utilizado para localizar fallas desconocidas hasta ahora, cartografiar dep&oacute;sitos de flujos pirocl&aacute;sticos y aguas subterr&aacute;neas. La mayor&iacute;a de los esc&aacute;neres lidar utilizan l&aacute;seres de infrarrojo cercano que son absorbidos por el agua, lo que permite a los cient&iacute;ficos cartografiar las
