En algunos lugares, los instrumentos se instalan de forma permanente y registran los datos continuamente. Sin embargo, a veces los cient&iacute;ficos configuran una red GPS de &laquo;campa&ntilde;a&raquo; sobre &laquo;puntos de referencia&raquo; (lugares con un punto de referencia est&aacute;ndar) donde se dejan durante varios d&iacute;as para registrar datos. Al combinar los datos recogidos de una red de GPS, es posible obtener una visi&oacute;n m&aacute;s amplia de qu&eacute; zonas de la superficie del volc&aacute;n se est&aacute;n moviendo, as&iacute; como la velocidad y la direcci&oacute;n del movimiento.
